Here is the text of an article appearing in the July 16, 2009, Lincoln County News:
Guest Artist Paul Sherman at Pemaquid Art Gallery
Guest Artist Paul Sherman is showing recent works at the Pemaquid Art Gallery this summer.
Sherman began painting and drawing at an early age, and at age eight, he began informal training with William Goadby Lawrence, a relationship that lasted for over 30 years. While doing undergraduate work at Bowdoin College, Sherman took several art classes from Howard Warshaw.
After receiving his masters degree in engineering from Columbia University, Sherman returned to Maine where he continued to work with Lawrence and developed a unique approach to watercolor.
Being self-employed, Sherman has worked in carpentry, electrical system maintenance, oceanography, shipbuilding, plumbing, and building inspection. He is currently involved in electronic instrument design and production.
According to Sherman, "I believe that all of this work in various careers has sharpened my powers of observation. Now that I am able to concentrate more fully on painting, I am looking forward to turning out more work."
He works mostly outside in South Bristol during the warm months and in his Damariscotta studio in the winter.
The Pemaquid Group of Artists is honored to have Paul Sherman exhibiting his work with them this season.
His paintings along with the work of other fine local artists can be seen at the Pemaquid Art Gallery at Lighthouse Park in Bristol, Maine. The gallery is open to the public from 10 AM to 5 PM daily.
